Staff

OWNER, CAPT. RUS SCHWAUSCH
Rus has been fishing, adventuring and guiding in Alaska since 1995 and his “infection” with Alaska Wilderness Safari began in 2001. Little did he know that his first trip to Alaska in '95, on a 100 mile unguided float trip with his buddies, would send his life in a completely new direction. He has since completely transitioned away from his engineering design days.
CO-OWNER, CARRIE BADER
Carrie is a full-time fire fighter and EMT for the Austin Fire Department, but supports the camp from Texas during the season and usually spends a couple of weeks at camp each season. In her spare time, she enjoys riding her dirt bikes, hiking, birding, camping and playing with the dogs.

CHEF, JACOB ROWLEY
Jacob studies at the prestigious Le Cordon Blue certified Texas Culinary Academy, so we're in for some real culinary treats this season. Originally from west Texas, Jacob spent most of his life on the soccer field where he developed his commitment to teamwork, which will be a great asset for our operation.

GUIDE, JOHNNY QUIROZ
Johnny's guided on and off at our Safari camp since '04 and back for '09. "Johnny Q" has a special gift with casting instruction and making people laugh. He has guided in Chile, Argentina and spends his off-season between guiding in the Texas hill country and photography near his hometown in south Texas.
GUIDE, RICHARD HEARN
Rich guided with us from '02 to '04 and '06, and is returning for the '09 season because he "just couldn't stand being away from camp for another season." We are thrilled and fortunate to have our "warrior poet" back this year. Welcome home, Rich!

GUIDE, JEREMY VIMMERSTEDT
As a mountain-man, musician, mason and all out fly fishing nut, Jeremy has spent countless days in the outdoors between Colorado and the Great Lakes. We're glad to have our "bear whisperer" back for '09. Plus, originally from Buffalo, New York, he'll help balance out our historically Texas-heavy staff!

CAMP STAFF/APPRENTICE GUIDE, JOE MARTINEZ
Growing up in the "country," Joe has the outdoors in his blood! Currently studying Criminal Justice at Texas State, he takes the fall semesters off to guide hunters in south Texas pursuing trophy whitetail deer. Joe's big heart and strong back make him a definite asset to the operation!

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
If you think you have what it takes to work in a rugged, remote and unforgiving environment that will challenge you both physically and mentally, please contact us about potential staff openings.

Everybody thinks they want to work in Alaska, but the work is NOT for everybody. Our work is perpetual and strenuous and is anything but your “great Alaskan vacation.” We need professional, hard working, serious, team oriented (no ego-maniacs), non-alcoholic and drug free people with a passion for the outdoors and hospitality.
