OWNER/GUIDE, CAPT. RUS SCHWAUSCH
Rus has been fishing, adventuring and guiding in Alaska since 1995 and his “infection” with Alaska Wilderness Safari began in 2001. Little did he know that his first trip to Alaska in '95, on a 100 mile unguided float trip with his buddies, would send his life in a completely new direction. He has since completely transitioned away from his engineering design days.
CO-OWNER, CARRIE BADER
Carrie is a full-time fire fighter and EMT for the Austin Fire Department, but supports the camp from Texas during the season and usually spends a couple of weeks at camp each season. In her spare time, she enjoys riding her dirt bikes, hiking, birding, camping and playing with the dogs.

CHEF, JACOB ROWLEY
Jacob's culinary roots started in west Texas, then evolved through his studies at the prestigious Le Cordon Blue certified Texas Culinary Academy in Austin. Now he's back for the 2010 season, so we can all look forward to another season of his gourmet wilderness cooking...

HEAD GUIDE, TED MENDREK
Ted's back for the 2010 season. He first guided at Alaska Wilderness Safari in '98, has completed 7 seasons since, and is well known for his incomparable work ethic, patience, fly fishing knowledge and customer service. In the off-season he guides in the Texas hill country and works at Sportsman's Finest in Austin.
GUIDE, JOE MARTINEZ
Growing up in the "country," Joe has the outdoors in his blood! Currently studying Criminal Justice at Texas State, he takes the fall semesters off to guide hunters in south Texas pursuing trophy whitetail deer. Joe's big heart and strong back, for yet another season, makes him a definite asset to the operation.

GUIDE, TOM CARLSON
Tom is a musician and outdoor/fly fishing nut. Growing up on the waters of northern Wisconsin led him to share his angling passion as a guide in both Alaska and Wisconsin. If he's not teaching someone how to tie flies at the local fishing club, then he's probably out fishing or paddling a canoe.

CAMP STAFF/APPRENTICE GUIDE, BRANDON BURROUGH
Brandon spent last year both leading and participating in crews on various backcountry restoration projects throughout Arizona. Originally from Indiana, now he wants to combine his fishing and outdoor skills together for the best of both worlds. This is the first season, but probably not the last, Brandon is working for us.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
If you think you have what it takes to work in a rugged, remote and unforgiving environment that will challenge you both physically and mentally, please contact us about potential staff openings.

Everybody thinks they want to work in Alaska, but the work is NOT for everybody. Our work is perpetual and strenuous and is anything but your “great Alaskan vacation.” We need professional, hard working, serious, team oriented (no ego-maniacs), non-alcoholic and drug free people with a passion for the outdoors and hospitality.
